"Mortal" by Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee
What I have to say...
Mortal, the second installment of Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee’s trilogy, The Books of Mortals, seamlessly transforms you back into the world they have created. Personally I heard Dekker’s voice more than Lee’s in this one, or so I think. I suppose one can never really tell. There were just a lot of parts that seemed very “male,” who knows though, Tosca could just be that good. The thing about the series that is different than The Circle Trilogy, besides the co-author factor is that you don’t go back and forth between two worlds. Nine years from where we left off we are thrown desperately into the themes of love, loyalty, and mortality. Dekker’s novels always contain a very deep “lesson/theme” that I don’t think everyone “gets,” but if you do you REALLY get it. If I explain what I mean more in depth I’ll give the basis of the story away, and you really should read it! I mean, if you don’t close this book without a new, deeper understanding of what love really is, I don’t know what to tell you. The ending is insane; I completely did not see it coming and cannot wait to read the final Sovereign next spring! Dive Deep! ;)

"The Grace Effect: How the Power of One Life Can Reverse the Corruption of Unbelief" by Larry Alex Taunton
What I have to say...
I just recently finished reading The Grace Effect: How the
Power of One Life Can Reverse the Corruption of Unbelief, by Larry Alex
Taunton, and I honestly cannot point out to you exactly why I chose it in the
first place. I mean something must have
jumped out at me; I’m just not particularly sure what exactly it was. I have a pretty high amount of faith in
anything published by Thomas Nelson though; I to this day have enjoyed every
book I’ve read under that nameplate.
This book is unlike most other “lifestyle” books I’ve read in the fact
that although the point of the book is in fact to prove a point, maybe it’s
not. The life story Taunton tells proves
the point in itself. Isn’t that how life is?
We can talk all we want, but in the end it’s just that. Talk. The proof
is in the pudding and it this case the pudding is Sasha, okay that didn’t come
out right but you get the point. Sasha’s
story is one that will keep you wanting more, and will bring you to tears (I
may have cried reading parts in the break room at work). All in all it is a very interesting read,
which will leave you understanding the true meaning of grace in a very
realistic way. What are you waiting
for? Go read it!

"The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible, NKJV" By Max Lucado
What I have to say...
When most people hear the phrase “King James Version” they think of old-fashioned dialect that there is absolutely no way they will understand. However, I bid you to focus on the word “NEW” that stands in front of the fore mentioned phrase when picking up Max Lucado’s, The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible, NKJV. I promise you there is no hint of this foreign language we know as the King James Version when it comes to this publishing of the Bible. The language is in fact quite modern and Lucado’s poetic reflections will help you to understand each section you read in a new way. In this edition, Lucado offers various studies, verses personalized by topic, reading plans, an index that’s broken down for different complications of life, and daily devotionals. Sometimes I find that “special editions” have so much packed into them but no way to find what you need when you need it. However, the organization of the layout of the above features is impeccable. I love everything about this book so much that I do not want to allow anyone to borrow it! This should be the next book that you add to your collection, and read!

"The Canary List" by Sigmund Brouwer
What I have to say...
The Canary List, by Sigmund Brouwer, is one of those novels that the synopsis doesn’t quite assure you what you’re going to get when you crack open the cover. You know, the ones where the author let’s you in just enough to peak your interest but not enough for you to actually know if it’s “the kind of book you’ll like?”
Darkness is chasing twelve-year-old foster child Jamie, She has three things: a bracelet; a therapist; and hope that her teacher, Mr. G, is someone who can help her. Said teacher is ceremonially mourning the anniversary of his daughter’s death when the image of her appears in his window. In a drunken state he doesn’t think much of it. This “image” turn’s out to be his student Jamie who is part of a conspiracy due to her unknown position on “The Canary List” and the gifts that come with it. The two, along with Mr. G’s elderly neighbor are dragged into a conspiracy involving the Vatican and witch craft that completely turns their lives upside down. I can’t say that there is an overwhelming “message” to be had from this story, however if you are looking to just get lost in a good story for a while then read it.
